This is the Main Oekaki Board. Here you should be putting effort into your pictures. Edited on July 4th, 2008, due to the dropping of the quality in art on the main board recently after Marriland assigned new administrators. Re-edited on October 5th, 2008. Small detail added.

- Spend at least 30 minutes on your picture. The more time you spend on it, the more effort, the better it is. We have decided to change the 10 minute rule to 30 - if you do not have the time or the patience to draw a picture that is at least 30 minutes, or a picture that looks like it would usually take 30 minutes to draw (a rather decent, good picture), then please practice on the doodle board. We do not need 15-minute spam pictures flooding this board.

- Try your best to put in a background, matching or not matching. It makes the picture look livelier/darker, whatever you're shooting for.

- Put "in-depth" shading. Don't randomly put darker areas and say "There I put in shading."

- Make your picture look neat. 1/10 times, you can put scribbly line art and it'll look nice. For the rest of the times, it looks rushed and messy.

Please try to follow these guidelines to make your artwork nicer and better fit for the main board!

The Doodle Board is where you can doodle your heart out, with no time limit or expectations.

Lastly, if you are making a Pro Board Application, the words "Pro App" in the title of the picture, or in the tags, will make searching for your picture much easier.

Dont think I've EVER put this much effort into a pic on here before ahaha :') This is the dress and wig I got for christmas- is anyone else into cuss fashion?

Also, do people even make pro apps any more? Well... It's the hands that always fail me anyway *Claws at out of reach diamond*

Pro apps are definitely still a thing! I just think you don't see a lot of them anymore since this site's pretty inactive.

This is very cute, and I'd be happy to critique you and give you some references if you'd like to officially make this a pro app. I've got some good tutorials that might help a lot! I hoard references ahaha

I'll go for a critique, but I think I'll leave the pro app haha I know my background could have been much better... and the hands again ^^'

But yeah, fire away

this is cute, i love the cotton candy and her blue nails are a nice touch! i also wear cuss so it's nice to know there's another here at mo.

the subject's face- really cute, but i suggest you flip your drawing and work from there to make things more even (this especially helps when you're drawing something cuss-related, those cupcake skirts are guaranteed to be uneven if freehanded). it might also help you to draw with a grid to help with your proportions, mostly on the face. i would also like to see you use colors that are more contrasting! as is now, the colors aren't muddied together but the shading isn't as interesting as it could be. try using a different color rather than a darker or lighter version of your base color. the shading on the dress and the bow is almost there, so good job on that!

and as a personal opinion, i think some of the tools are a bit clashing. it's very difficult to use the binary or tone tool with something smooth like the airbrush or watercolor tool, you definitely pulled it off on the bow (which i love so much btw, awesome work), but the lace on the dress, the candy floss, and the hair could all use some work as the tools don't work together as well as they could.
luxurychoccie  308D, 1458C @ Monday, January 26th 2015, 4:23 PM
Whoa, both the Annas are cuss too... Spooky O.O

But thankies for all of that ^_^ I am particularly proud of the bow... I'll see if I can have a go at the whole colour contrasty thing, the idea had piqued my interest ^.^

Surprise, I'm your secret santa again this year, Kohn! I'm sorry this took so long. This Christmas season has been wicked busy for me, and then I got a little too ambitious and decided to do a picture with a full background. That, and my tablet's starting to cuss out on me.
I must say, I loved a lot of the references you provided, but your take on Artemis was so cool, I had to go with her! I seem to remember something about Greek gods having golden blood or something like that, so that's what I was going for with that yellow stuff.

Also, this absolutely did not take me a berjillion hours. The timer is off by a lot thanks to rping and my usual cussing around on tumblr as I draw ahaha

Here's the finished pic on tumblr in case it doesn't show up properly here

Here you go! Sorry it wouldn't accept the full size. This is 80%. (-Candyp0p)

Thank you so much!!! I'll definitely have to be a little more careful about how big I make my canvases next time.
I spent about 5 and half hours on this total and I'm really pleased with the result. Perspective is certainly an area I need to work on in my artwork but I'm getting there.

Also I have 0 background ability lmao so I just kinda... winged it and added a stippled effect to her so that she would actually fit with her surroundings

Here is the full version:
Progress shots:
And I've deleted the previous file on here of the WIP. :)

Casper: oh goodness me i didnt even realize i made the pun lmao
Thank you so much!! And I see what you mean with the collarbone now that I'm looking at it... I didn't notice that before. o: I'll keep this in mind for next time!
Casper  89D, 618C @ Tuesday, June 10th 2014, 9:53 PM
I don't know why but I found it far more hilarious than it should be that you said you winged the background and the fairy girl has wings and yeah I giggled
buTANYHOO!! yEAH I like this this is lovely! uvu The whole dotted effect looks really nice I think! And the hair is loVELY And I really like the eyebrows a whole bunch~!
Though you're right your perspective does need work but I'm sure that's nothing some studying and practice can't handle! Though the collarbone looks kind of off to be too, maybe at the wrong angle- the one closest to us looks like it's kind of connected to he arm pit when really they go to the top of the shoulder! If that makes sense
Pro Imura  547D, 2342C @ Thursday, June 12th 2014, 12:49 AM
I think, on top of the aforementioned issues with perspective, my biggest confusion with the piece comes from really not being clear on the positioning of the character. Is she flying at the viewer? Is she sitting on the moss saddle...thing? There's no indication that the character and the background are interacting in any way, so I'm having a really hard time trying to figure out what direction to take. I have comments to make regardless of the direction, but I don't wanna write a book when I'd only need to do a third of one instead.

Your colouring technique is pretty rad; the stippling is pretty well done and you've managed to preserve the contrast that oftentimes gets gobbled up once you start blending things together. Your light sources, however, are really questionable. On the body of the fairy alone, I can see...3+ light sources, and unless there are some reflective surfaces nearby, that's waaaaaay too many, and thats not counting the one that's illuminating the background on its own.I can forgive some of the spotty lighting on the wings because they seem shiny, but I'm still a bit confused by them.

If you'd like, I can try my hand at a red line and point out things to watch for. In the meantime, try looking through for some guidance on posing and perspective. The site features computer-generated anatomical models without skin, so if you're at all sensitive to that sort of stuff, be wary.
Teallaquin  29D, 126C @ Thursday, June 12th 2014, 4:28 AM
Wow, thank you so much for such an in-depth critique!! ^u^ I wanted to ask for some but I wasn't sure how to put it that wasn't "PAY ATTENTION TO MY ARRRTTT :("

Perspective is one of my biggest weaknesses, so it's DEFINTIELY something I need to practice. I'll make good use of that posing site! I never really know where to look for references I need, see, because I can never quite find exactly what I'm looking for because I'm picky.
I definitely see what you mean with the light sources. I think I noticed it part of the way through and just got lazy about fixing it. The light was originally supported to be in front of her, if it's any help. o:
The pose originally intended was supposed to be as if she was kind of flying towards the viewer or, uh... wow shoot I dont think i thought the pose through okay hang on
She was supposed to be leaning over her legs, like she's checking something out that's below her eye level, and that thing happens to be the viewer (though that makes close to no sense considering the perspective honestly i thought it just looked cool lmao).

Thanks for your compliments on the coloring though! ^u^ If nothing else I think I can color p well so I'm glad it was well received. The stippling was kind of a last-minute thing to kind of cover up the lack of subject-background interaction that you mentioned, but I'm also glad that turned out well!

I would greatly appreciate a redline, if you wouldn't mind! c: Have at it! Thank you so much, again!
Pro Imura  547D, 2342C @ Thursday, June 12th 2014, 4:36 AM
No worries, man. I'm glad you didn't like, flip out and get all defensive. That's the woooooorst

Posemaniacs is really good to get basic poses from all different perspectives and angles and to show how muscle structure works. You're not gonna be able to find like, super crazy off-the-wall poses, but if you get the hang of sketching the poses they offer, you can really learn a lot about anatomy and perspective.

Front of her as sunlight or an artificial light source in front of say, where her chest is?

Alright, I think I get it. She's flying at the viewer then?
Teallaquin  29D, 126C @ Thursday, June 12th 2014, 4:19 PM
oh gosh yeah @n@ i see people do that its like nah man they're trying to help you :(

I'll definitely be keeping that site in my back pocket. I think I used it once, but I never finished the picture that I used their reference for so I kind of forgot.

And yeah! The light would be pointing at her chest, and she's flying at the viewer. :>

I'm super late to this, and I won't critique because I am in no position to critique someone's work when mine is in dire need of help LOL

BUT OK, I'm going to point out I really love your use of colors and its evident you know how to blend and color really wonderfully!!
I love this character to no end and the background is lovely, its very 'relaxing' for some reason!

The pose is fantastic, and the texture is also super great and nicely done, you can really tell you dedicated yourself to this! There isn't anything I personally don't like about this.
And like I said before, I'm not good at critiquing people's work at all but I'd say if you worked on what people told you to you'll have a lil pro diamond next to your name in no time!

You really do have a neat and flattering art style I look forward to what you'll do next!

Goodness, I uploaded this half-way through and returned to it to find that I lost all my line art and part of my sketch! :(
Anyway, hello everyone! I'm not exactly new-- I joined back in 2008 and returned in 2010, but I joined under a different name this time around. I hope that's okay with everyone! c:
As soon as I get this pen-pressure up and running, expect to see more!
(And I genuinely hope that the lost line art was a one-time deal, because there's no way I'm going to be able to do all my art in one go. @_@)

Here's a question, I was thinking that maybe this time around I'd try out for the Pro board, if memory serves my account has to be a certain amount of months old before I can do so. Does that still apply to this new account, or does the time allotted on my older account count?

Edit: Oh, pardon, I probably should have specified what my old account was! It was "Cresselia-ROX!!!" (I'm sure you all can understand why I wanted to change)
(also i fixed a typo oopsie i meant "to see more" not "me")

chibipaint has absolutely no problems re-touching... however i personally have a problem where anything i draw is not updated, even if i clear my cache. it shows up finished if i re-touch but not on the board itself. not sure if you'll have that problem too though.
